Week 14: Initial K Studio Quilt Pattern Inspiration and Design Process

I just released the Modern Waves quilt pattern last week and wanted to share my design process from beginning to end. Most times I pull images from pinterest or magazines and then create a mood/inspiration board.
From there I moved forward with sketching out various design ideas. My original sketch had the color-way running vertically, which you can see pinned on my inspiration board below.

The next step is to mock-up my favorite design ideas in illustrator and go from there. Once I'm happy with the design, I then work on the color palette and pull various fabric swatches until I'm happy with the end result, all the while referencing my inspiration board to ensure I'm still on track with my original vision.

And then it's off to write, test and create the new quilt pattern and then photograph it for the release.

Regardless, it's been a labor of love over the past few months and I'm so thrilled to finally have it published. Happy Friday y'all!

  1. Is this pattern available? I'm looking for a block pattern to use in an Ello block exchange.
